My students have taken on the real-world problem of declining numbers of pollinators. They have learned that habitat loss is one of the main reasons we are losing pollinators such as butterflies and bees and that they are crucial to our food supply. Through The Pollinator Project, my students will create a model pollinator habitat at our school and use it to teach others how to make their yards more pollinator-friendly. My students have researched and interviewed experts to determine what plants and other objects should be included in a pollinator garden for our area and are raising money to purchase the plants. They will use the raised garden bed kit to set up and maintain the habitat on our school grounds. They will create educational signs about the garden, host seed, and plant giveaways, and use the habitat to promote pollinator-friendly plants in our community. The Pollinator Project allows my students to take meaningful action based on their research!
