During the reading workshop, my students spread out throughout the classroom choosing the best book nook to "get lost in their book." Making those spaces more comfortable will encourage a passion for reading, keep them motivated, and make reading time all the more enjoyable. Flexible seating also gives my students the power of choice; an opportunity to take control of their own learning. When students are given a choice, their level of engagement and enthusiasm dramatically increases. The document camera will also be an integral part of my reading workshop curriculum. I will use the camera to project books that we can read chorally as a class. Using the document camera during this "shared reading" time will help students learn decoding skills and strategies, learn how to monitor their reading, learn how to read fluently and with expression, learn new vocabulary words as well as so many other important reading opportunities.
