Our high school is the only "city located" school in our county. Our population is 65% black, 35% white. The school has about 1800 students total. My class is comprised entirely of females so the dynamics are exciting! The girls have completed an application process for acceptance and will be enrolled in the class for junior & senior year. These ladies have the desire to work and the interest to lead in the field of early childhood education. According to our state regulations, these students can be hired as a lead teacher at the completion of the class. We also have an articulation agreement with the community college which allows them to enter in a higher ranked course. The majority of my students are low income/free and reduced lunch and cannot afford to provide funds for their own smocks. I am adamant that every one is treated equally; therefore my desire to provide smocks. As in many schools, core subjects are pushed, BUT the vocational classes provide that bridge to employment!
