As a professional school counselor, I need to be more accessible to the students in my care. The counselor position that I currently hold requires a great deal of my time be spent teaching, leaving me unavailable to students when needs arise. On a daily basis, I have students who ask to speak with me and I have to turn them away. Not to mention students who may seek me out without my knowing. My students need to have a means of communicating with me, and of feeling assured that whatever they are experiencing is important. My solution is the iPad! I would like to have three iPads outside my office as an electronic, efficient, and confidential means for students to reach me. Since I serve over 600 students, and the American School Counselor Association recommends a counselor to student ration of 1:250, I thought three was appropriate. This system will not only allow me to be more available to students, but will also enable me to collect valuable school counseling data.
