Our class is in need of two items that we will use daily. We need a bookshelf to place all of the books we read every day. The students will use the bookshelf to select books according to their lexile level. They will read on a daily basis. Reading is very important in first grade. We read in our reading series as well as all of the other subject areas. This bookshelf would be very beneficial to our class. We are also in a great need of a center for our reading and writing lessons. My first graders don’t always have the best view of the lessons. I often struggle to hold up the oversized large books when I’m sharing and introducing a shared reading story with them. The Reading and Writing Easel Center will enable me to effortlessly display the many big books that I use with our teaching program allowing all of my first graders to easily see the material from their rug seat. In addition to effortlessly showing the oversized shared reading, the easel hooks will allow me to hang writing chart paper during my mini writing lessons-making the writing lesson presentations so much easier since both the reading and writing materials can be stored at the same easel station. It has a dual magnetic and white board which will be a very useful and functional part of my daily math lessons when I’m using math tools and manipulatives to show my students visual examples of math concepts. Thank you reading about our project!
