The books selected for this project are drawn from a wide variety of cultural points of view. Many of my students do not read widely and thus do not have a very broad worldview. Through intentionally choosing books from diverse authors and about diverse characters, I hope to help students expand their understandings of the world around them. For students often bound by their socioeconomic status, texts are the most affordable way to "travel" and see the world through another's eyes. I strongly believe that literature is vital to relating to others, and I hope these texts help my students do so.
