Our school is gearing up for an adventure! We will be implementing the Expeditionary Learning (EL) curriculum in K-2 next year! This curriculum challenges teachers and students to think outside of the traditional classroom box. Students will take part in project based learning, higher level thinking, creating quality work, leadership roles, self-discovery, and character building. Along with the change in thinking and doing, EL promotes flexible seating and comfortable classrooms. This rug would be used for an endless amount of activities and learning opportunities. We need this rug for morning meetings where we gather every day to greet one another, discuss our weekly character trait, collaborate, and build positive connections with one another. Sadly, our morning meetings are currently taking place on our cold tile classroom floor. Not only would we gather in a circle every morning on this cozy rug, students would use it throughout the day for team activities, independent work time and partner readings. My students yearn for the feeling of comfort in our classroom. I would love for my students to have the freedom to learn wherever they learn and feel best. This new EL adventure opens a door of explorations, character building, and comfortable learning.
