Many of the most common allergy triggers, especially dust mites, mold, and mildew, thrive in humid environments. I teach in a humid climate, and my class is a small sized space with limited ventilation, which means that it is prone to the build up of moisture. Mold allergies are also a significant contributor to childhood asthma, which can be a debilitating and costly disease for children who develop it at a young age. Dehumidifiers reduce humidity levels, which will make the classroom environment less hospitable to allergens such as dust mites, mold, and mildew. Students will not have to worry about moist assignments and slippery floors and desks if this project is funded!
