All students are capable of learning and excelling academically. Many students struggle in biology, due to a lack of scientific literacy skills. This year, I would like to work on literacy skills to help students become more scientific thinkers. The science literature (news magazine) will be utilized to build students' literacy skills in the area of science. Students will be able to conduct monthly current event articles, in which students will need to read and write a one-page summary highlighting certain concepts in the articles. Students will learn how to make connections to the article and science content learning in class. With this method, I hope to bridge the gap in reading literacy.
