Many of my students have grown up without access to quality books and since a love of reading gained in childhood yields lifelong rewards, it is my goal to promote a love of reading in my classroom. Unfortunately I do not have bookshelves to display the books that I currently have for my guided reading area and classroom library. Therefore, I am asking for two bookshelves so that my students can have easy access to quality books in their classroom during silent reading and guided reading.
By donating to my project, you are providing a way for me to show my students that reading is fundamental to learning. I would love to engage my students in a novel study with a book that I believe offers relevance, value and authenticity to them. Esperanza Rising is a novel that is culturally relevant to my students and I believe that a novel study will invite meaningful learning through peer discussions and activities about perseverance and the history of migrant farmers in California.
