The math materials in this project give students a reference point and hands on access while learning. For example, students will be able to easily see the difference between shapes by being able to hold and touch them, which also supports our tactile learners. This allows for a more concrete concept to be etched into their memory. Items like the Calendar Math Activity is used daily during core math. The teddy counters are needed when learning how to sort but can also be used when learning how to compose & decompose numbers. Access to a wide variety of texts creates engaged reading experiences. The Scholastic News Nonfiction readers will allow my students to choose reading material that excites them while learning reading fundamentals. Students get to go to our class library and pick a selection of 3-5 books to put in their book bag to read at different times/stations throughout the day. We focus heavily on developing a students reading skills, but more so their LOVE of reading. I want to be able to offer my students books that THEY are interested in and want to read.
