Flexible seating in the classroom helps students take charge of their learning. Throughout the school day the students have many opportunities to choose different areas in the room to work independently, in partners, or at times in groups. They have some options available currently including short tables, the carpet area, bucket seats, and camping chairs. Giving students the opportunity and ability to choose areas in the room to work helps them make good choices and be more motivated in the tasks they are working on. It creates more student engagement and learning to occur within our classroom. I believe that giving students multiple places to learn in the classroom helps immensely in their learning process. The products I have chosen will be used through out our classroom in different areas so they each have their own special feel. The bean bag chairs will be placed in the reading corner for them to be able to cozy up with a book. The stools will be used when they are working in a group on centers or group projects. The pillows and bubble seats will be used at the new math game center that will be used to improve their fluency in math facts. The clipboards will be used around the room in various areas for them to work wherever they are comfortable. This sometimes could be the carpet, the bean bag chairs, or even under a desk if they choose too. I have seen the impact that flexible seating has had on my classroom and would love to incorporate more areas for them to use!
