Flexible seating is becoming more and more popular in the classroom. Teachers are steering away from the traditional desks and chairs and exchanging them for mats, pillows, yoga balls, clipboards, and more. In my split classroom, students are exposed to a type of flexible seating where they can pick where they want to go during stations or even during small group instruction at the carpet. I allow my students to sit at tables using stools, lay on the carpet with a clipboard, or cozy up in our reading area using pillows and stuffed animals. I would love to expand the options students have by introducing balance balls, wobble chairs, and wobble cushions. By allowing the students to have choice in their learning environment, they will be even more eager to learn and be able to focus for longer periods of time. In my classroom there will be tables with balance balls, regular chairs, and wobble seats. There will also be lowered tables with large pillows and cushions. This project will help fund the cost of the more costly items that would make the flexible seating in my classroom successful.
