During the 2017-2018 school year, all 150 of my students have experimented with flexible activities in an attempt to collaborate with classmates and add movement to the classroom. I am asking for trapezoid whiteboard tables that will target this style of collaborative learning so that my students will have even more access to a 21st-century style of learning. It has always been my goal to provide a classroom environment that caters to each student’s individual needs, while promoting a culture of student ownership and collaboration. Most days, students are collaborating through writing in my high school English classroom. For example, the students frequently complete large-scale textual annotations in group gallery walks, where I have posted an excerpt of text on large pieces of butcher paper so that they can practice making their thinking visible. Students in my classroom will also frequently participate in 'Ink Thinks' where they have silent discussions responding to original questions that their classmates have come up with using the whiteboards on my classroom wall. Encouraged by the success of these strategies, I am certain that adding whiteboard tables to my classroom furniture will further increase student engagement and participation, which will enhance student achievement.
