In pre-Kindergarten, we spend a large part of our day sitting on the carpet. It is not developmentally appropriate to expect that pre-kindergarten students are going to be able to sit still for long periods of time without spinning around on their spot, touching their neighbor or just wiggling from all the energy in their little bodies. The new carpet would give my students some room to move but more importantly visually define their personal space. The carpet will help define their personal space not only for when sitting for large group but also during movement activities. When students are able to wiggle and move without disrupting the person next to them they will be able to learn so much better. The carpet has the letters of the alphabet as well as numbers so children will be able to engage in learning math and literacy when finding their spot. Having a spot of their own will give students a feeling of belonging, minimize distractions and increase their focus which is optimal for helping them learn and grow. The new carpet is brightly colored, high quality and designed for classroom use. It is extremely stain resistant for easy cleaning and anti-bacterially treated to protect kids. Year after year my class would really benefit during circle time and all of our other daytime activities with the addition of a new clean carpet.
