These books will truly help my students access the complicated Early Modern English language used in Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet." He weaves in poetry with storytelling techniques that wow the reader. I want them to understand the story for its prominent dramatic irony and timeless themes, but also because its a canonical piece referenced often in pop culture. My students often relate closely to the characters' need for both self-expression and rebellion, but they struggle finding the meaning when they have to double-translate the language (first into English, and then again into Early Modern English). It's more than I can ask them to do. With your help, they can more easily experience this classic.
