English Language Arts and Math are the two tested subject areas for Kindergarten and first grade in the state of Arizona. Science and Social Studies, though required content areas to teach, are normally pushed aside. As my first year of teaching comes to an end, I have reviewed the Science and Social Studies first grade standards and realized I have barely scraped the surface! And if I found time to teach these subjects, it was normally in isolation with random resources, since I lack the curriculum. With Scholastic News, I will integrate Science and Social Studies into reading. Students will love the colorful photographs, interactive comprehension checks and skills practices included in every copy.
