Something magical happens when students are able to sit at a single table together and discuss a written text. Students see themselves as individuals with an important contribution to make to their community. They have the opportunity to hear others ideas, and practice speaking and listening skills with peers. Seating that allows for small group work will give my students the hands on learning experiences they need and motivate them to try their hardest through peer to peer learning. The learning environment needs to be conducive to student interaction and participation. The current seating arrangement in my classroom does not allow students in interact with one another in a meaningful way. I would like to purchase stacking chairs for seating that allows for more small group work and station teaching in my classroom. I would also like to purchase a moveable whiteboard to use in small group lessons. These items will help facilitate group participation and individualized hands on learning.
