This is my 15th year working with preschool through 4th grade students in a high poverty school in Charlottesville, VA. As the school counselor I help student succeed academically, personally, and socially. I teach classroom guidance lessons that focus on building character, I work with students in small counseling groups, and I work with students individually. I have created two school-wide programs--Bully Nots and First Friends--that use creative mediums like singing, dancing, and acting to spread messages about kindness, respect, and inclusion. My students have performed at our school and all over central VA spreading as they encourage their peers to be Upstanders and treat everyone with kindness. My students are strong, smart, resilient, and creative and it's a privilege to be their school counselor.
