My students measure and cut weed tarp to fit certain areas to maintain a healthy, good looking, peaceful garden atmosphere. Students throughout the school see the garden every day, and classes use the space to hold outdoor lessons/eat lunch on fall and spring days. Students learn how to maintain a garden by getting dirty and working! Additionally, students always want to water the garden - and having a hose reel that works will make watering a task that students can do independently. My students are learning that gardens are a lot of work, but gardens are also very rewarding and can provide a peaceful place to spend time.
