In Kindergarten, children are eager to learn. They don't quite know about their emotions yet. They do know, for example, how to express their emotions physically through hitting and crying. However, expressing their emotions verbally is what I am looking for. Some may say it is the guidance counselor's job to do this. However it is becoming more of a teacher's responsibility to teach about emotions and how to handle things that might bring negative, as well as positive, emotions. Because, as we know, when a student's emotions are out of whack I can't call on the guidance counselor every time. I need to handle that problem right then and there. So what could be a better way to tap into my students' emotional side than through books and dolls?
