My students are amazing each year! They are mostly second language learners and many of them are new to the country! Most come to school ready and willing to learn new things and some come darting out the door and screaming! Either way, I take them from not know speaking English to reading by the end of the year. Just to gloat a little, most of them are reading 1st grade material if not higher when they leave! My students have a love for learning but it is hard as a teacher to balance that love, fun, and high expectations and accountability! I do my best and always try to put some element of craziness in my lessons, to keep them on their toes! We are a campus that is approximately 90% free and reduced lunch, so my students have not had it easy in their life. I can tell stories of horrific things that have happened to them, unimaginable things but they have persevered! Year after year, my kids amaze me with what they are able to do and how they overall carry themselves!
