At the beginning of this year, I founded our school's gender & sexuality alliance, Spectrum. As I learned from my own personal experience, nothings feels more safe than to have a space dedicated to your identity and community. Spectrum was created to provide students with fellowship and unconditional love in order to recognize their power. Through our art projects, students will be able to challenge and tackle negative connotations around the LGTBQIA+ community while spreading knowledge and love across the school community. This will build social emotional and art skills while also creating another way for students to express themselves. It is time for us to truly tap into our power to shift the perspectives of those around us, and this project will help our students do so.
