Currently, the guidance counseling area in our school contains one table. That is it. My goal is to create an anti-anxiety room where the students can come to get away from the stress of the day. Many students suffer from anxiety disorders and need a safe, calming place to go during the day. My dream is to eventually have a couch, a large bean bag chair, pillows, soft lighting and a bubble tube. Often, when students are having anxiety attacks now, they end up in the bathroom because there is no where else for them to go. I want to create a space where all students feel welcome, and where I can monitor them and talk to them when they are having a difficult day. For this project, I am requesting a couch that seats three people. It will be the focal point of the room, and a place for students to sit comfortably and discuss problems. It will also be used for peer mentoring.
