My students love to learn, but need extra help doing it. They need high-interest books on their various levels to cultivate the love of learning and to make them willing to try to read. Also, my students need books with characters that look like them. The book sets that celebrate diversity will be a way for my students to see themselves in a book, creating more of an investment in their learning and love for reading. The Caldecott Medal and Honors Book Set, the Coretta Scott King Award book sets and Honor Winner Book Set will help my students read books that use higher level vocabulary so that they are able to broaden their language skills. They are also exposed to books at a higher level than they are currently reading.
