This project will provide 3 Scholastic magazines for my students in the 2020-2021 school year. Scholastic News, Science Spin, and Map Skills for Today, follow the academic standards and ties them to the real world for students. Scholastic magazines show students that learning can be relevant to what's in the world today. Teaching students about our environment is important for our future. Some of the topics the Science Spin subscription covers are investigations, interdependent relationships of ecosystems, our human impact on the Earth, and much more. The articles are interesting and tend to draw readers in making their science education more fun. The magazines also has experiments within them that I can do with the students virtually to engage them in hands-on learning. Scholastic News gives students engaging stories that adds to our curriculum. It also gives us access to more online material for students to learn from. This magazine helps integrate reading into the other core subjects. These magazines are appealing to students, fun, and add interest to subjects in our class. With Map Skills for Today, my first graders will be learn some essential mapping elements, such as symbols, compass rose, labels and keys to read and construct maps about their neighborhood and community. There are also simple explanations of geography concepts to introduce students to the world and fun activities that'll build critical-thinking skills. The addition of these learning magazines to my classroom would also help connect school and home learning. We will be able to utilize the digital format during virtual lessons and a physical copy will also be mailed home to students. This will generate new topics of discussion within the home and will make classroom lessons more relevant in their daily lives.
