I believe that all teachers play an important role in the literacy development of their students. The students that I currently teach are diverse in their ethnic backgrounds and their literacy skills. The Science Scope magazines and books will be used directly be the students in our classroom to help further develop their literacy skills by allowing them to read about different scientific phenomena. Students will then be challenged to collaboratively create a scientific article about a topic they have selected. They will be able to apply what they have learned about text structures and science together to create their article. All articles will published to share with parents and other classes.
