My students are five and six year old kindergarteners. Their first language is Spanish. My school is a high poverty school. My school has not been able to provide funds for center manipulatives for many years. Our centers are in great need of materials for student exploration. Most of my students lack many of the basic skills needed in kindergarten, but they are energetic and excited to learn. Like all young children they learn by doing and exploring. Math is specially difficult for them because it is taught in their second language.
