My students are the best group of kids ever! They love to learn when they are inspired, especially my lower readers. If I can give my students the power and desire to read, I know their minds will never want to stop. I have a mixture of races in my 3rd grade classroom. We are in a rural community and attend a small, public elementary school in SC. Much of our funding has been taken away due to state budget cuts, so we cannot afford interesting, appropriate texts. Some of my students do not have many background experiences that they bring to school, and 76% of our school population is on free/reduced lunch. Regardless of the drawbacks, my students have great character and deserve to have the same opportunities as other students across our great nation. They need to be inspired with selections that will peak their interests.
