Our school is exactly what you'd picture an urban high school is like. Our building is aging and our classrooms are over capacity. We have eager students driven to learn, but the school itself can't keep up with their needs. We have been rated the lowest performing high school in Rhode Island by outside agencies for the last three years. We are the only public high school serving our community, a small city in municipal bankruptcy that has been unable to fund the school district for two decades. Every student in our school is supported by free or reduced-price lunch. Our school contains substantial populations of English Language Learners and Special Education students. Despite the challenges that they face, our students are driven to excel. Our graduation rate is rising rapidly and a large number of our students are accepted into college, including competitive local and national four-year colleges.
