I am working to create a more inclusive classroom that has many different ways for students to get the same material. In my room we use laptops during their independent math and guided reading times while they wait to rotate to me. Most of the year, many of my students struggled due to not being able to correctly use a laptop. I was able to borrow an iPad from a friend and the difference was night and day. Students who were never engaged became engaged and more excited to push their own learning. By having Samsung tablets available in the classroom, students will have another option if laptops are something developmentally they aren’t ready for. We use math and literacy programs that give us data on where students are in their learning as well as help us predict how they will do on their end of the year test. Some students have difficulty manipulating laptops due to developmental delays and therefore do not get the same opportunities due to access as their peers. The frustration of having to use a material that developmentally they are not ready for often leads to dislike for learning. With your donation students who have developmental delays will be able to use the tablets to have a more hand on experience and gain access to the information acknowledge they crave, while respecting their style of learning. We are truly creating a classroom where every student has a chance to be who they want to be.
