These materials will help me build a library of books that students can choose to read during free voluntary reading time. They offer a variety of interesting stories that beginning Spanish students can understand. Studies show that the best way to acquire Spanish (besides living in an immersion type situation) is to read in the target language. If my project is funded, I will be able to provide this to the students in my middle school Spanish classes. It will provide language context and cultural exposure which will lead to language acquisition and empathy.
