My students have significant sensory processing needs which can distract them from focusing on the tasks at hand. Flexible seating options (wobble stools and ball seats) will give them the vestibular movement they need so they are not tipping their chairs as they work. Fluorescent lighting can be very harsh on the eyes and brains of even typically-developing children. The light filters will help filter out some of that harsh lighting and will alter the mood of the classroom to one that is more relaxing. Loud noises can make assemblies or group gatherings very unpleasant for some of my students. Earmuffs help them remain a part of the group while decreasing that noise level which can deter them from social situations. Compression vests are necessary for the proprioceptive needs of many of my students. They crave the deep pressure of a big bear hug but cannot always rely on someone else to satisfy that need.
