With these supplies students will have the resources they need to grow as readers. Sometimes what a student really needs to be motivated in class is a novel that they can connect with on a personal level. The titles listed are high interest novels, and in addition tie into the topics we cover in English 1A. My hope is that these novels will encourage students to rediscover (or continue) their love of reading as they enter their high school years. With the higher level of expectations, work, and stress, sometimes students forget the simple pleasure of reading a book. With physical books, students are able to loose themselves in a story building their vocabulary and reading comprehension skills in an enjoyable fashion. In this technological age, sometimes students need a real book to hold onto so they can focus without the temptation distractions only a click away.
