When I ask my students what they are most looking forward to in art they always say "clay"! Our current kiln does not work. While we have done some air dry projects, they are not waterproof and often break leaving students let down and frustrated. My students ask weekly when they will get to use clay and I have to tell them that we can't do clay until the kiln works. With a kiln, there is a huge variety of projects my students could complete. My school already has a huge supply of other ceramic supplies such as clay, glaze, tools, and electric potter wheels. With a kiln the 3-D creativity of my students would be endless.
