My scholars attend an inner city, high performing, creative arts, public elementary school where 97% of the student population receive free lunch. They live in the state of Louisiana which has been devastated by two natural and unnatural disasters directly related to science and inquiry. The state itself has a rich foundation in environmental science from its delicate wetlands, to waterways that impact not only our state but the national economy. Many of my scholars see themselves as future doctors, nurses, teachers, and engineers and they are aware that having a strong background in science is the foundation for achieving their goal. They eagerly await science during school and are captivated by new "discoveries." I simply need more resources to sustain their interest.
