Social studies students will be visited by Chuck Johnson, a disc jockey and musical producer from Columbus, Ohio. Chuck will lead a lesson on the history of hip hop. Next, students will be introduced to equipment and items used in creating hip hop music such as turn tables, microphones, and a beat maker. Learners will be shown how to scratch records and make their own beats. Afterwards, students will get the chance to experiment with using the equipment by scratching the records on the turn tables and making a beat. Finally, students will have an authentic opportunity to perform hip hop rap lyrics crafted from a unit of study in class.
