The students that I teach all have special needs and range in age from 3-5 years old. Many come from low income households. The students qualify for the preschool program because they are facing developmental delays and need special supports to help prepare them for their future school careers. Many of the students have speech and language delays, making it difficult for them to communicate with others and communicate their wants and needs. Several of the students have weak hands, making day-to-day activities challenging for them. We sing, dance, learn, and read just like other typically developing preschoolers. We also use manipulatives to help strengthen their fine motor skills. We go to the gym or go outside to help with gross motor skills. We spend time playing to help develop language and social skills. The students are gaining the skills they need for future success in school while having fun in preschool!
