Kindergartners learn and work best when they have the freedom to move around and be comfortable. Flexible options such as wobble stools, lap desks, or floor cushions allow students to choose the seating in which they will feel most at ease. Comfy kids are more ready to learn! Choice within the classroom makes students leaders of their own learning. I have seen my students as they make decisions for themselves and take ownership and pride in their own education. Whether working individually on reading or writing, or collaborating with their peers, my students not only enjoy, but often require their own place to be productive. We would all love to have more choices available to us in our working classroom.
