The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in early literacy. Using the workshop model in writing, students come to the rug with whiteboards for guided practice. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. What becomes a problem is the fact that a lot of my students are English Language Learners and need dotted letters to trace as they form words and sentences. They also need to hear the words multiple times in order to sound out the letters. Even though they are trying their best, some students do not have the fine motor skills to write it free-hand. By having an easel, individual dry erase pockets, and a speaker, students will be able to hear the words many times and focus on increasing their learning through writing and erasing! By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase biliteracy, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. In this multilingual world, nurturing multiple languages will increase their ability to become world citizens.
