I feel that if everything has it's own space kids will learn organizational skills because we know that organizational skills are very important to children's educational performance. With a new cubbie storage unit, my students will be able to keep various things organized, such as the plastic vehicles and transportation signs in the block center!
At the Pre-K level, learning self-regulation and controlling our own emotions is an important developmental milestone. Having a place where children can be alone and practice self-regulation skills without suffering negative consequences of a formal time away from peers reduces embarrassment and builds students' self confidence, while preparing them for the expectations and challenges associated with entering the formal school environment. My students need a cozy cube with a comfortable mat for quiet, personal space away from a busy classroom. The cozy cube will allow for a student to have some quiet time for himself/herself for a few minutes! I feel that an organized and safe classroom creates confident students who are ready to succeed in kindergarten!
