Many of my students do not have dictionaries at home, so they cannot complete their work, and if they need to spell, there's no aid for them to learn. They will be able to look at complicated words included in the study of geography, United States history, and current events. They have the opportunity to learn the power of words and to begin to use them in their daily lives. I had a class set of dictionaries, but as of this year, they have been worked to death: pages are falling out, sections are falling out, covers are torn off—not from maliciousness, but from overuse. It is time for them to retire and a new set of dictionaries to take their places.
