I teach 5th grade in a small public school in a rural area. The students come from a variety of social and economic backgrounds and are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite all of the challenges they face, I am looking to keep a smile on their faces and let my students use their imaginations and have a meaningful learning experience. They are curious, enthusiastic, and creative; my students are eager to immerse themselves in any kind of challenge. It is difficult to remember, at times, that we place high demands on young children. Providing them with many things to help make our expectations as developmentally appropriate as possible can only help them become more successful.

About my class
