My students have struggled during this pandemic. Many of them have even more worries and concerns than they did prior to the pandemic. The worries and concerns have added to their difficulties staying focused and paying attention to their classwork and academic goals. All of these items will help my special education students in multiple areas of their learning and social emotional health and hopefully bring them some comfort during this time of uncertainty. This project will help my special education students in grades K-2 with the WCSD Social and Emotional Learning Standard: Develop self-management competencies to: regulate emotions, manage stress, and monitor and achieve behaviors related to school and life success. The wobble seats and chair bands are great for students who have a difficult time sitting still and need the sensory from the movement from the wiggle seat or the kicking of their feet. The fidgets are helpful while students are trying to concentrate on an assignment or are listening to a read aloud. The surf desks will allow students to sit in a different area in the classroom while still allowing them access to a desk. The stress balls will allow my students with high anxiety and stress to focus more on the ball than their stress or anxiety. The balance ball allows for movement at their seat instead of sitting at a chair which allows little to no movement. The timers will allow the student to either know how much time they have left to complete an assignment or it will let them know how much time they have before an assignment will begin.
