Nothing compares to real-world experience. During our Life Cycle/What Living Things Need unit, we are studying many plants and animals. To take our learning to the next level, we are watching the life cycle in action. We need a Brinsea Mini II Incubator. As scientists, we observe our eggs and the incubator providing the heat, rotation, and air circulation needed. We note changes, including the exciting day when we start hearing peeps coming from inside the eggs and see hairline cracks beginning to form. The world in the classroom comes alive as students care for their hatchlings and reflect on their learning. As we discover the chicks' characteristics and needs, we write in our Academic Process Journals to solidify understanding. We think like writers and scientists as we study the chicks. We work collaboratively and share discoveries through shared research projects about them, and we practice nurturing, gentle body language as we take responsibility for our flock.
