I teach in an inner city school in Worcester, MA. My students are all second language learners many of whom have come from refugee camps and from the devastation in Puerto Rico after the Hurricane. Some were able to attend school in their native country but many did not have the benefits of regular education that is held to our high standards in America. They come from many parts of the world and speak many other languages. About half of our school are English language learners and live in poverty with over 90% being free or reduced lunch. I teach about 70 students per day whose English level is a beginner English Proficiency Level of 1 or 2. My job is to teach them basic English grammar, vocabulary and culture.
