The carpet, cushions, and calming pillows will take an empty and uninviting portable (AKA "A Cottage") to a warm and inviting room. The soft surfaces will also help minimize the echoing sounds. The children will be able to work in small groups in places other than their desks. Children can take a cushion and find a corner or other special place to read or complete an assignment. My students are more engaged when they have a choice where to sit and collaborate. Many of my students work in groups. The carpet, cushions, and pillows will allow them to sit comfortably on the floor. The pillows and chairs will allow students to meet in small groups to work on projects or assignments.
