My students need exposure to different texts and genres of children's literature. These picture books will be used for interactive read alouds in my classroom, both in-person and virtually. Interactive read alouds take up a small portion of our ELA block each day. But in that time period, students are provided with the opportunity to interact with the text. They listen to how fluent reading looks and sounds, they discuss the meanings of new vocabulary words, while collaboratively talking with their classmates about the book, and answering questions that I pose throughout. Interactive read alouds give exposure to literature that my young learners so desperately crave.
