I recently accepted an All-day Kindergarten position in a high poverty elementary school. Ninety two percent of my students qualify for the free and reduce lunch program. We make sure that our students get a health breakfast and lunch every day. With their basic needs met, I spend my days working to encourage exploration and discovery. To do this they must have a the proper tools to build both language and skills. I will use small group activities to build relationships and create a safe environment where the children can practice the vocabulary they are learning in class and where they can converse with each other without the stress of having to perform on the spot.
