My students use learning devices such as iPads, Chromebooks, and audiobooks throughout the day to engage in personalized learning opportunities. These tools have been useful for helping tailor the curriculum to individual student needs, but the noise level generated from the content that they are engaged in makes it hard for them to concentrate on the task at hand and they often become easily distracted by the sounds that other students' devices are making. We've tried turning the sound down, but then, they miss part of the content.
Headphones will allow for students to be fully engaged in their learning materials by allowing them to hear auditory content but at the same time block out other distractions in the classroom.
Devices have been wonderful for allowing for personalized learning. Having access to headphones will allow students to engage in content and enhance their learning when I am working with other students. When I meet with small groups of students, other students have personalized learning tasks on their iPad.
